Extending virtual events

Last March saw the first event run on our new virtual event component in eventfolio - our events management system.

Previously we’ve run a number of virtual events for clients as bespoke projects, but building this into eventfolio marks an exciting new chapter for the product.

The new component allows you to add a virtual element to any multi-day event - for example a five day conference. This feature allows you to add a Vimeo live stream or Zoom Webinar to individual sessions, and these sessions can either be open to all attendees, or limited based on their ticket setup.

An on-the-day set of widgets allows you to display the session running order or sessions attendees are booked on the event page. This updates as the event progresses - so you can clearly see what sessions are next.

Because these features can be added into a multi-day event there is the potential to create hybrid events - with virtual and in-person attendees. The event can be a physical one but attendees who can’t attend can participate in virtually.

The Society for Applied Microbiology (SFAM) ran their Early Career Scientist Research Symposium 2021 back in March - an event spread across five days -  which saw over 200 people attend.

"The Early Career Scientist Symposium, our second biggest event of the year, ran smoothly online without any technical issues at all. Really impressed with the functionality of the new upgrade and the ease in setting up the event."

Dr Paul Sainsbury, Director of Communications and Business Development, SFAM.

For us, this was the first release of this new component, and we have added exciting new features including fully integrated chat, polls and other live session features, as well exhibitor zones and other features that surround the event.

As online events continue to be the norm we continue to extend and expand our virtual event system to ensure we deliver an even more engaging experience for members.
