ISUOG is a charity and membership association with the mission of improving women’s health through the provision, advancement, and dissemination of the highest quality education, standards and research information around ultrasound in obstetrics and gynecology. Beginning in 1991 with the first issue of the UOG Journal and the first World Congress, ISUOG has now grown to over 13,000 members in 127 countries and is the leading international society of professionals in ultrasound in obstetrics and gynecology.  It has a global community that needs to gain access to a broad range of educational resources for all training and professional levels.

ISUOG wanted to increase engagement and deliver personalised, high-quality information to each of its members and to provide a fully comprehensive and interactive experience.

The organisation required a mobile friendly site, that would encourage members to join and provide membership self-service - a seamless, single sign on experience.  Enabling members to search for the relevant content was key but also to encourage them to upgrade their membership themselves.  It also wanted the potential to add additional member benefits, that could be purchased, as and when required, so needed a website that was future proof for growth.

The Challenge

Content Migration & Management

One of the challenges was the level of content.  ISUOG uses a wide variety of interactive learning formats ranging from on demand videos and online learning modules to articles from their scientific journal Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology , press releases, statements and guidelines.  Also, some of the educational resources are available in multiple languages.

Another challenge was bringing all the silos of content together.  Namely, creating uniform taxonomy that worked across all types of content.

Tagging was a key part of this, ensuring that all different content types and topics were available for the right audiences in the right region.  ISUOG also needed to set permissions for content that was restricted or partially restricted, due to different membership levels.

CRM & System Integration

ISUOG, like a lot of organisations, decided to review their CRM system at the same time as their new website.  Pixl8 were pleased when a Microsoft Dynamics based system had been chosen, as Pixl8 have over 20+ projects working with this CRM.

In order to create a comprehensive self-service facility for members and to deliver a personalised experience, Pixl8 worked closely with the chosen CRM partner to identify the touch points between the two systems. Using our Unified Data Platform Methodology we set up comprehensive synchronisations of data between the two systems.  This provided ISUOG with advanced membership personalisation functionality in addition to full self-service functions.

Site Development

ISUOG also required separate Microsites.  In particular, the Outreach program that provides intensive education and hands-on training in ultrasound with the goal to improve maternal and perinatal health in underserved communities around the world.

Pixl8 knew the importance of this microsite, an area that had to be more prominent and user friendly, to reflect the charitable work of the Outreach team and the volunteer doctors, trainers and trainees.  It also had to encourage people to donate to the worthy cause.

“Pixl8’s design and technical team understood these challenges, and managed a series of workshops to determine the full requirement of the site.  With a consistent team working on the project, including members and branding agency, they could ensure that ISUOG’s brief was met.  This helped enormously to define the information architecture and arrange feature priorities”. - Alex Skinner, Managing Director, Pixl8.

Key highlights of the website:

  • Flexible CMS providing a straightforward admin experience
  • Browser and device neutral
  • Seamless integration of social media
  • Cohesive delivery of education content
  • Vibrant design: rich images and videos with a strong brand identity.
  • Personalised user experience
  • More scrolling less clicking
  • User-friendly user login
“Changing our CRM and website at the same time meant for a small society like us a big challenge and investment in time and internal resources. In cases like this, working with the right partner is key for the success of the project and we feel that our new website reflects perfectly what we are: a scientific society delivering outstanding scientific content from international top experts and working with cutting-edge images and technology to provide the best service and an engaging experience to our members and broad audiences” Gemma Moreno, Communications and Marketing Manager, ISUOG

The Outcome

The end result is a fast, visually engaging, self-service, mobile responsive website that delivers the latest scientific content and educations resources with the goal to engage their members and broad audience.  From a visitor and member perspective, the new site is much more intuitive, with a user-friendly login to find related membership content and information within the separate microsites.
